review 1: This was a good book, although I didn't read it as quickly as the last book I read (Save The Date). It made me sad, and it made me happy. The storyline was very relatable as family goes, and I wasn't expecting the main plot twist either, which is nice for a change. The Wishing Hill made me want to forgive, make amends, and do things that truly make me happy. I would have given it 5 stars, but the ending left me hanging. I don't know if the several page 'Acknowledgment' section that followed the last page of the story played mind tricks on me; causing me to expect there to be more, when there wasn't, but I would've like to have known how everything turned out after the baby, and with Desiree and Clarie's relationship (and Juliet & Ian's too!). This book had several qu... moreotes/pearls of wisom about love and relationships that I wish I would've bookmarked to reference again. Overall a good book!
review 2: The Wishing Hill is a complex, well-written novel. Susan Straight, National Book Award Nominee, calls it "A novel that sings of love for a child, regret for a life, and the quiet triumphs of survival and finding each other again." Mothers and daughters, brother and sister, second chances, yearning for personal fulfillment, for community, for recognition as an actor or artist; all of these themes and more are shown through the intertwined stories of flawed but (mostly) likeable characters. less

The story was interesting enough but the protagonist was a little whiny for my liking.
