review 1: What a book, what a story, I felt so lucky that Horace Greasley decided to tell his story. It really sticks out for me as soldiers biographies tend to focus on the very worst story's that can be found the absolute carnage and death that Nazi Germany inflicted on the world. Instead this revolves around friendship,love,commitment and sadness. Yes there is the odd reminder throughout of the atrocities that Horace witnessed but the actual core story is heartwarming and I thought about Horace and his story for a long time after finishing it.
review 2: If you only read one book this year, make sure it's this one. Through the hell and devastation of war comes a true, love story that will pull even the hardiest of heart strings. Be prepared to go through every emotion;
... more anger, laughter, joy and sadness as you discover the true meaning of friendship, love and loyalty.The last ten chapters are the most gripping and really immerse you in the story. This has become my new favourite book. I would love to know what happened to Horace after the war but then I doubt, that with the greatest respect, it could better this.If this isn't made into a film I'll be surprised (and dumbfounded). If it is, I'll be the first in the queue at the cinema.The only downside for me is that I fear now, this will be the benchmark for every other book I read, and I will be utterly disappointed.Amazing. less
