R&B sensation Raheem DeVaughn organized a big holiday show at the Howard Theatre on Dec. 21, and Chris Castillo was there to photograph it! The show was all about uniting people, and Raheem was accompanied by the legendary go-go band Backyard Band, Major, Faith Evans, and several other acts!
Raheem released Love Sex Passion, his fifth solo studio album, in 2015 via 368 Music Group and E1 Music. But he teamed up with actor/poet/rapper Wes Felton (aka W. Ellington Felton and Dub Ell) to form DC duo The CrossRhodes, and together they released Footprints on the Moon, a sociopolitical-minded collaboration, in September via BMG.
“With the current state of political uncertainty, creatives have a responsibility to be the voice and reflection of the people. Music with a message is a much needed and welcomed disruption. Footprints on the Moon plans to inspire and incite positive and catalytic change,” said Raheem in a press release about the new album.
Wes joined Raheem at the end of the show for new songs like “America” by The CrossRhodes, which Raheem performed after favorites of his own like “Customer” from 2008’s Love Behind the Melody, “Bulletproof” from The Love & War MasterPeace in 2009, and “Queen” from Love Sex Passion.
Raheem DeVaughn has some upcoming shows on his schedule, including a New Year’s Eve show at Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts in Detroit! He also returns locally to perform at Baltimore Soundstage in Baltimore on Jan. 11. Keep your ears open for his soulful sounds in the near future.
