review 1: "Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed immaturity. Immaturity is the inability to use one's understanding without guidance from another." And to Kant, anyone who seeks to take away man's freedom to exercise his reason is wrong(there are of course certain times when man must obey. Kant cites the example of a military officer who must obey orders, but notes that the same officer is obliged to think on the orders.)
review 2: I read this text for a Coursera course, "The Modern and the Postmodern". ... moreurity is self-incurred if its cause is not lack of understanding, but lack of resolution and courage to use it without the guidance of another." less
