review 1: This book isn't as bad as some reviews describe it. But it is true that the characters in this story don't seem to be real people. They are acting in a very weird way. I understand that they are scientists, but they are going too far. I liked how the story began, but somwhere around 80% of the book I totally lost connection with the characters and the story. These people have no real emotions, they are not reacting in a convincing way. Something is missing in this book: true romance, true feelings. It is too cold and scientific to be a romance novel. But I am giving two stars for trying.
review 2: I didn't like this book. I thought when I read the sample I was going to get a book about an affair about two mature adults (with some kinky bits). Instead i got an o... moreffensive novel where the woman has her free will taken away, through either drink, drugs or its done before she has a chance to protest. she is subjected to a series of (sexy?) experiments. After effectively becoming this guys sex slave. she is told the reason why? BDSM could cure depression (what?!)and her blood is magic. she then agrees to be the project guinea pig, even after what she went through as she found out she was aroused by the whole thing.The bits I hated most were the flash backs. Apart from the romp in the botanical garden at the start. Every one of them depicts Jeremy in a bad light. Not one of them demonstrates Alexa having a descision in the matter. I cant decide which one is the worst: The one where Alexa goes clubbing and gets her drink spiked (by someone else) Jeremy acts concerned but sees the opportunity to explore Alexa in her unconscious state. Or the one where shes loses a bet and because a promise is a promise she has to do a sex act with him (at that point, had the book been a paperbook i would have hurled it against a wall, thats how disgusted i was with that bit.So, in conclusion, Its ok to be sexually abused as long as a) You are too drugged to consent, b) you enjoyed it, so its alright then and c) the guy is so goddamn hot, who could say no. Oh, and People with depression just need a good spanking. Sarcasm aside, Ive read (or tried to) a few of these books now and have yet to read about one woman who isn't confident or assertive at the beginning of these books. I like kinky stuff, but these woman are starting to depress me (put the paddle away). Seriously, im starting to wonder if Ms Pankhurst and co were wasting their time trying to get votes for women. less
