Spice & Wolf: Manga
review 1: Spice & Wolf was an ok book all it's really about is and man named Krafted Lawrence who is a traveling merchant and soons finds the Holo who is the wolf of harvest in a small town in his carriege. she offers him a deal so she can travel with him and to never return to this small town that no longer relise on her. He agrees to take her and relizes while on the road how his profits have been going up , but they still have a long road to go on . Spice & Wolf is a slow develop story but can grab your attition at times. It may seem intrasting or seem like a good manga but I think if you really read it and understand what is really gonig on in the story you will probbaly want to read more so you can see what happenes and soon grow to love it . But right now its just taking time t... moreo develop and expalin a little on what is going on in the story. You can tell right away how Krafted and Holo seem to have semaliry prblems in a way .Even has Holo tells Krafted about what has happened over the years he feels for her and is one of the reasons he takes her with him along the road.
review 2: Stuff I Read – Spice and Wolf Vol 1So on a bit of a whim we picked up the first volume of Spice and Wolf, which seemed like it might be rather interesting, as it promises a bit of mystery and wolf spirits and that kind of thing, though in the end I’m not quite sure how well it follows through, I suppose by necessity this first volume is taken up much more by introductions and the like. It sets up that the story is about a rather meh merchant who travels around, who comes into contact with a much more interesting wolf spirit named Holo. And with Holo is the main draw of the series. Aside from the obvious appeal of naked wolf girl, Holo is also the character with personality and with charm. The merchant is just kind of boring, really, without a whole lot to say for himself. He is a merchant but doesn’t seem exceptional. He is a wanderer and just sort of a nice guy. That’s about it, and while that is okay, it doesn’t do to much to creating a very engaging story. Holo, on the other hand, is rather odd and whimsical, letting her impulses drive a lot of what she does. She is also more animated and conniving, and just generally a much more interesting character.Which makes her the main redeeming part of this volume, because not a lot really happens in it. There is the beginning of a story, the beginning of a sort of mercantile mystery, but it leaves off about halfway through. Also, the mystery just sort of plods around without much sense of urgency or import. This seems much more about the slow, meandering journey of the merchant and Holo, which has its moments, mostly because Holo is still largely unknown and is interesting. She is also the main source of humor, because her behavior is rather odd and chaotic, which is always fun. But the mystery, if it can be called that, is about money speculation in a medieval setting. Which, okay, I’m sure will get more interesting, but really doesn’t do a whole lot. Much more fun is to see Holo barter over martin pelts and savor apples and things like that. And it’s not like a lot of characters are introduced. Beyond Holo and the merchant, there are only two real characters that are introduced, the first being the dishonest merchant trying to use the main characters to make money and the money changer who is the main character’s friend. But even they both come off as rather dull.So I’m not really sure what to expect out of this series, nor what to say about it, really. It is a mature title, which seems odd because beyond nudity there really isn’t any reason for it to be so, and so it seems a bit of a waste of a mature rating. But then, perhaps this is going to really pick up in the next volume, and there will be violence and things like that. Really, I can’t really say because I’m not sure what this is trying to do. I’m hoping that its going to be more of a journey mystery with some action maybe, like something along the lines of Kino’s Travels. And I can hope that, but for now there’s just not a whole lot happening, and no amount of naked wolf girl changes that. The series show some potential, but falls quite short right out the gate. If the first volume is really supposed to wow the reader, then this series did a poor job of it. It provides a nice scene and some okay characters, but it reads a bit like a historical romance. And at the end of the day I want more. I want things to happen. I want some tension beyond a little bit of romantic tension. I want some mystery. I want something. I am underwhelmed so far, and as such give this volume a 5.5/10. less
