review 1: A good Christmas read, though this is by no means essential to enjoying the story. Farjeon successfully uses the creepy situation he creates of a group of strangers trapped by unnatural amounts of snow to create an 'on edge' atmosphere, which is effective but never really comes to anything. Don't be put off by those comparing it to Agatha Christie's Murder on The Orient Express as the train really plays very little part in the story. However some themes were recognisable, which says more about that era of crime fiction that the book itself, as elements of the story ring a bell with Christie's And Then There Were None, which in fact was published 2 years after Mystery in White. In any case I am glad it has come back in print and would recommend as a winter ... moreread!
review 2: A classic crime story to settle down with over Christmas - heavily promoted this year in Waterstones and the cover was enough to make me want to get it. Very much in the classic tradition with a group of strangers brought together by a snow storm in an isolated country house. Adding to the Christmas feel there's a touch of the traditional ghost story to it. Not my normal type of crime novel but entertaining and just right for this time of year. less

If Conan Doyle did Christmas (a bit less good than a Sherlock though)

Predictable, but a lot of fun, nonetheless.
