review 1: J. Robert Lennon's books often leave me frustrated at their conclusion. I love his set ups, and the character work that exists around them, but sometimes the ending veers off in ways that don't satisfy. With 'Familiar' this feeling faded over time, and I feel the story better for ending in the way that it does, but 'Castle' takes a turn that doesn't feel deserved. There's having an unreliable narrator, and there's playing the 'traumatic amnesia' card. I largely enjoyed 'Castle' up until this point, but the back third just felt sour, since I saw where it was going, and had to endure the ride all the way into it's conclusion. Still probably worth checking out, for fans of 'Familiar' but just be prepared.
review 2: "Castle" is not a book about the TV series. Rath
... moreer, it's a story of a soldier, coming home in order to put down roots, re-discover himself, try to understand the family tragedy that keeps him wary of those around him? Nothing is ever simply given to us in black and white in this novel when it comes to the protagonist's life. Slowly but surely, we're given hints, suggestions, and finally, grim and disturbing answers. The story could have been better, but I'm not quite sure how...different writing style, different perspective, more details in the beginning. Either way, "Castle" was an interesting read but not really a novel I would suggest to many since there are so many other thriller/mystery/psychological trips that are better. less

There were about 20 interesting pages in this book. The rest.....not so much.

A quick read. Interesting, but occasionally silly. Awful dialogue, though.

Not my kind of book - a guy read.
