review 1: I really, really enjoyed this book. Similar to The Witch's Boy, with a very dark storyline and lots of death. I would definitely recommend for 5th and up even though the cover looks "young." I thought the writing was really well done and the story was excellent. I had no idea what was going to happen, I was guessing the whole time. I thought it was very clever at the end. Not perfect, but really captivating and creepy at times. I really liked the characters, especially Kara and Lucas, the others didn't develop nearly as much as them. I will be on the lookout for J.A. White's next book!
review 2: This is a chilling story of witches in a tiny island settlement, home to a cult disapproving of magic. When Kara Westfall was 6, she witnessed the hanging of her mother
... morefor the worst possible sin, witchcraft. Her father sinks into depression and Kara is left to care for her sickly brother, Taff, as her family is shunned and ridiculed by everyone. Definitely YA for the horror content; (Grace is a psychopath!)yet the cover is deceiving. Imaginative and frequently frightening, the surprise ending packs a punch. less
