Synopsis:
It’s been months since the ghost of Anna Korlov opened a door to Hell in her basement and disappeared into it, but ghost-hunter Cas Lowood can’t move on.
His friends remind him that Anna sacrificed herself so that Cas could live—not walk around half dead. He knows they’re right, but in Cas’s eyes, no living girl he meets can compare to the dead girl he fell in love with.
Now he’s seeing Anna everywhere: sometimes when he’s asleep and sometimes in waking nightmares. But something is very wrong…these aren’t just daydreams. Anna seems tortured, torn apart in new and ever more gruesome ways every time she appears.
Cas doesn’t know what happened to Anna when she disappeared into Hell, but he knows she doesn’t deserve whatever is happening to her now. Anna saved Cas more than once, and it’s time for him to return the favor.
_____________________________When I finished Anna Dressed in Black, I loved it so much that I had to buy the second book right away. Once again, Kendare Blake creates a different kind of horror story and brings in different details you don’t see in other books.
In this book, Cas goes on with life without Anna after she sacrifices herself to save him. However, Cas is seeing Anna everywhere go, and she doesn’t look happy. His friends tells him that he is only seeing her because she’s no longer her, but Cas knows that whatever he is seeing, it is Anna, and Anna for real. Cas knows he has to save her, but has no idea where to start. Along with his friends, Cas goes on a journey to find Anna and save her once and for all.
Just like the first book, the second book was just as amazing. The beginning of the book was a little different but it eventually flowed into same path as the first book with Cas trying to figure things out. Once the book seemed to follow the same path, it started to become good again.
What caught my attention this time was that there was something new to figure out. In the last book, Anna was part of the world. In this book, she no longer is. The mystery was how to find Anna and get her away from wherever she is. It is not as easy as it sounds. It is only one giant puzzle with a million pieces.
I was very happy when the details and history behind Cas’s blade was brought up. We know have a clear understanding where it came from, what it can do, and even more. It was good that this wasn’t left out, or everyone would be questioning what the point of the blade exactly was. It was proven that the blade was a key detail in the story.
