review 1: There are some very intriguing stories in here. Of course one of the best things about short story collections is skipping the bits that don't appeal to you, so I confess I did not read them all. I found I liked best the ones that were unexpected in some way: the take of dragons hiding as human; the tale of the woman who falls in love with the dragon who has fallen in love with her, and so on. The ones that read like the standard fantasy take were well written but ultimately not terribly memorable.
review 2: Once again Jack Dann and Gardner Dozois do an excellent job editing this collection of short stories, all of which include a dragon. The stories are quite varied and include different settings (Arctic North, Western, modern day, etc.), points of view (the
... morewould be dragon slayer, wizard, dragon, and random passerby), and tones (humorous, dramatic, etc.). I enjoyed every story but one. For a 400+ page book with 19 stories, that's an excellent hit rate! less
