review 1: This was an interesting read. I loved how the author tackled the prompt. It was fitting with an element of surprise. The writing was pleasing and it kept me interested in how the story unfolds. There were some intense, hot scenes and delicious tensions. The reservation I have about the story comes from the fact that I was never sure about the motives of the characters. Kidnapping is a serious offence and while I could guess Elliot’s motives (Will must have been infuriatingly stubborn), I am still left baffled with the motives of those who helped him. It was hard to see why Will accused Elliot as homophobic, when the revelation about their past came. I would have liked to see more about Elliot and his relationship with Will. It would have made the ending more compelling. ... moreBut I love my HFN and the way Jack wrote her characters made them interesting enough for me to care about them.
review 2: This story is better read twice. I found some of the language distancing and the syuzhet confusing on my initial read, but it was mysterious and exciting enough to keep me fixed. In the end, I was convinced and compelled by the bond between the main character and his son but not between the main character and the other man. I did believe there was a deep bond, but I was never truly invited in--they remained strangers; I didn't understand what held them together or transformed them. less
