review 1: Alice-Miranda Highton-Smith-Kennington-Jones is a friendly 7 yr old girl who starts at her new boarding school called Winchesterfield-Downsfordale Academy for Proper Yound Ladies. When she arrives at the academy so discovers that something is wrong and that the headmistress hasn't been seen for ten years. Alice-Miranda has to complete a set of impossible task to prove that she can stay at the academy and make the school a better place!Alice-Miranda at school is the first book out of the Alice-Miranda series. I really enjoyed the book because it was adventurous and funny!
review 2: As I've said many times when deriding hyphenated names, "What happens when a person with a hyphenated name marries another person with a hyphenated name?" Alice-Miranada Highton-Smith... more-Kennington-Jones happens! Happily she has no difficulty rattling it all off every time she introduces herself to anybody, nor does anybody at the Winchesterfield-Downsfordvale Academy for Proper Young Ladies, where she is the youngest ever girl to obtain entrance (at 7 and 1/4). Alice-Miranda is a precocious little girl with a prodigious memory. She should be ghastly, but she's lovely. She always looks for the best in people, and as she assumes she's always right, she always finds the best!This very funny book is the first I've read in the series, and I'm definitely going to read the rest of them, and borrow them again for my grandchildren in a year or two. Who couldn't resist a girl who, with her blithe bonhomie, brings a whole school back to a state of happiness (all except the bully, and truth be told that's about the way things work with bullies). less
