review 1: I loved this book. I found it completely inspiring. It did change my thinking around God. We read it in a study group at church, led by my Pastor. It's not a difficult read, yet the ideas are challenging. I think it's the kind of book that one will find most beneficial if you read is as part of a group. The discussion of the material is important. It's also important to do the homework/study questions on your own. The soul training exercises do make a difference.I disagree with the reviewer who gave this book a negative review on the grounds it only shows the fluffy side of God. I think the reviewer got a different take on certain chapters than I did. God, as described in the book, is capable of anger. He has clear expectations for us. He simply loves us enough not to aba... morendon us if and when we stumble.
review 2: This is a wonderful book about the character of God. So if you've ever wondered, how can God be Good and then allow bad things to happen? or, why did Jesus have to die for sin? etc., this is a great book for you. The author also includes, in each chapter, a practice to help you understand that particular quality of God and cultivate it into your own life. My unfortunate tendency is to read through a book like this and not actually DO the activities, but if you did - especially in a group - it would be really effective. less
