review 1: This book was fantastic. I didn't know what to expect and just grabbed it off the shelf at the library. Never heard of the author or the book.First - it takes place in Massachusetts and Rhode and Island, so it's local to me. I liked that, of course. Even learned a few things about the area.Second - it's a fairly short book at 7 CDs, I think. Even so, the author managed to really give some depth to many of the characters. The only character I thought was lacking was the Connie Garrison. He seemed almost unreal and cartoonish at the end.One other thing I liked was the tension that was created. It was easy to get frustrated at Babes and the bumbling moves he made -- but one has to keep reminding themselves that it is normal for a person with Asperger's syndrome. I've known fo... morelks with it, and can understand (a little) about how they function. So rather than be like the clueless and stupid teenager plot device in the horror movie, Babes served as a real asset to the story.I actually got really into the book and was going right along with the emotions of the characters. I was sucked in, especially near the end. That said - some of the climactic parts felt rather drawn out. In fact, this was the first audio book for me that clearly exposed a serious downside to audio books:You can't read faster at the end!!!!Ever get to the point in the book where the pages just start flying? You're like, "come on, come on - go already!" and maybe your eyes dart forward, then back. Can't really do that with a book on CD. It was actually frustrating at points.Overall - great book. I recommend it. Worth your time to listen, and it's no 15 CD-er either.
review 2: This is a solid suspense novel involving a cold case. When a beautiful young teacher is killed by what is believed to be a drunk driver, no evidence leads to the person causing the car accident. Three years later her husband is trying to raise their young daughter while also working hard to run a sports-radio show and break into playing major league baseball when he begins receiving disturbing clues. A sympathetic young husband, his wife's bereaved family, and an alluring prosecutor combine for a pleasing read. No sex; mostly implied violence. less
