review 1: This was a good, quick read that had me wondering what would happen next. Although some of the other reviewers claimed it was "predictable," I didn't think it was, or at least not glaringly so. I suspected certain people were involved, but I thought that the author did a good job of making you question your suspicions, just like Charlie, our main character.The only thing that actually did bug me was the constant reminder of how Charlie has an eidetic memory (a photographic memory, or a really great memory, etc). It kind of felt like any time he mentioned he was trying to remember something, he commented about his super memory or how he was was pulling up the mental pictures he'd taken. Constant reminders like that just annoy me. (It probably wasn't as frequent as it s... moreeemed, but once I pick up on something like that, it becomes very noticeable to me).
review 2: Ugh, finally finished this book. It's not that the book is bad, it's not really, but everything is so...predictable. And there is a lot of monotony mixed in with sharp brief moments of action and momentum. I can't remember the last time it took me more than a week to finish any book and this one took me a couple of months. Mostly because every time I picked it up was preceded by having to mentally persuade myself to pick it up. I didn't just quit because I couldn't think of a justifiable reason to quit. And quitting books always felt kind of wrong to me. The story wasn't exactly bad, the characters weren't irritating and they did not invoke disgust or hate. But it was all kind of blah. And the ending was too much like a present wrapped up with a bow. Everyone who did bad things got what they deserved, everyone who didn't do bad things came away without any long term harm. It's not that I like sad endings, but seriously, this was fairytale perfect. less
