review 1: I found this book difficult to get through, especially at first as I got used to the writer's style of following every thought of the main character Helen. Her thoughts jumped about from one to another, stopping abruptly and picking up again later. The more I read of this book the more I wanted to as it felt tense and like it was leading toward something definite. I felt the ending was an anti-climax due to this and that lessened my enjoyment of the book.
review 2: I'm not sure I've ever read a whole stream of consciousness novel and confess that I zoomed through because it was so exhausting, I just wanted to be done! the character gets no rest so neither does the reader. But an amazing feat. I suspect there were many bits of backstory that I missed but maybe t... morehe threads aren't meant to tie up. Worth looking at for the impressive voice, but not a book you'll necessarily adore. less
