review 1: I found this book difficult to get through, especially at first as I got used to the writer's style of following every thought of the main character Helen. Her thoughts jumped about from one to another, stopping abruptly and picking up again later. The more I read of this book the more I wanted to as it felt tense and like it was leading toward something definite. I felt the ending was an anti-climax due to this and that lessened my enjoyment of the book.

Another mini masterpiece from James Kelman. Beautiful, mundane, heartbreaking and uplifting.
