review 1: I think I liked the idea better than the actual story. I felt a lot of the book was predictable, and I'm not talking about the mythology aspects. I will say the author put some serious effort into modernizing the old Norse mythology, which I enjoyed. Over all it was a decent book, but I'm not sure I would read the 2 other books he has written in a very similar fashion with Egyptian and Roman mythologies. It's a long book, which isn't a deterrent for me, but I wasn't always compelled to pick it back up.
review 2: Another strong entry in Lovegrove's Pantheon series. The story is told through the viewpoint of a British ex-soldier looking for a second chance who becomes the reluctant mythic hero of the tale. I like the creative blending of Norse mythology and hig... moreh-tech weaponry to create a "modern" Ragnorak. The premise of "Gods are stories" is also very interesting and links nicely with the tradition of sagas in Norse society. Highly recommended. less
