review 1: The first few chapters make Meek seem like a sin apologist and a really horny dude. Ignore that, power through, and it ends up raising a ton of interesting questions about applying moral principles to real life scenarios (you can't!) and the nature of mortality. I love the separate stories (celebrities AND science? my perfect mix), and they dovetail beautifully at the end. My only complaint is that the middle of the book drags a bit.
review 2: Like the previous book I rated, I wasn't a big fan of the way Meek skims over large chunks of time with overviews of character's histories in the third person - however, also like the previous book (The White Family by Maggie Gee), I was drawn in. ... morerough; at first, it seemed a fairly standard mix of characters with family issues, potential scandal, varied work related detail that didn't at first seem entirely relevant. I can't put my finger on what changed but it really did seem to click at one point and I went from being mildly interested to quite engrossed. Give it a go. less
