review 1: I've devoured every James Newman novel I've been lucky enough to read. Animosity, a cold little novel, was setting itself up to be my favorite. Yet the tense, almost Ketchum-like setup of intense, real world horror gives way to a climax not so much bad (I rather enjoyed it) but not in keeping with its earlier tone. So the 5 star setup and 3+ star conclusion wholly earns its 4 stars. Very worth the read. Also check out Newman's The Wicked and Ugly As Sin. Fantastic reads.
review 2: I have been a fan of James Newman for a long time. His previous novel, Midnight Rain, is destined to be read again and again. With all of his works, Newman has a style of prose that seamlessly gets you into each of the characters and no matter the horrific action that takes place, you... more know the characters have the absolute capability to do so, and it always come with an enjoyable punch to the gut. The same is done in Animosity and shows what humanity is capable of in this day and age. Highly recommended!! less
