review 1: The book Once Upon the End by James Riley is about a young boy named Jack who has never been called a hero. His not destined to be royalty and marry a princess. This is why Jack leaves his friends to be part of the Wicked Queen’s army where he will learn how to be one of the evil knights called an eye. The fairy queen Malvent predicted that one friend will die and another shall betray the long lost Princess Cinderella. Join Jack on his epic quest to find where he really belongs and who will be the one that meets their end. The author made this book quite a thrill to read by adding a character from the modern world who turn out to be Princess Cinderella. I loved it when Jack tried his best to ignore his friends and focus on helping the queen. Little did they know that he... more was trying to help them. Of course this book being about fairy tales there was a lot of mythical creatures but people can still relate to this. Sometimes in life you feel like others are meant for greatness and they come from an important family line so they are going to accomplish something big (and you won’t). This is similar to what happened with jack and his friends, both his friends were royal jack wasn't. So he didn't even get thanked for all the times he saved people. That’s why he left the group. I would rate this book a 5/5 because the entire series was great but this book was the best. It had everything a fairy tale should have action, adventure and even a bit of romance here and there. The action parts involved Jack’s training towards the end of the book and when Jack got teleported to the land of PUNK (a.k.a modern world). This book got the highest marks because of its good story telling and great dialogue. The best part is anyone can read it but fantasy lovers are sure to this book the most.
review 2: "Living a fairy tale sounded good, until you realized you were only getting the bad parts, and all the fairy godmothers and happily ever afters weren't coming."At the beginning of this final book in the Half Upon a Time series, we find our three heroes separated and trying to avoid the Mirror's prophecy that one of the boys would die and the other would betray May. Jack is training to be a guard for the Evil Queen (known as an Eye). May is living with her stepmother and two stepsisters. And Philip is living in his castle with his mom and Penelope (Sleeping Beauty). To explain the places where this story takes us would be to give away some of the surprising twists and turns. I would never want to do that. I'd hate to take away the fun of discovering them on your own. Let's just say you will meet even more fairy-tale characters, including the Sandman, Beauty & the Beast and Leprechauns. You even find out the origins of the Grimm Fairy Tale stories. And, of course, Jack's true identity is finally revealed. The great thing about this series is, it only gets better with each book. And every book surprised me with unexpected revelations. I loved every minute!!Recommended toYoung Readers to adults. Anyone who enjoys fairy tales and adventures. less
