review 1: I was so disappointed in this cookbook. I am becoming a Paula Deen fan and I just expected more from a cookbook from her sons. I will say that the ease of finding ingredients at your local supermarket which are used in this cookbook is fantastic. This is a rare trait in our world of super crazy ethnic fusion recipes and gastronomic quests in the culinary bible realm these days. I was a bit bored with the recipes in here. They failed to muster up much interest or desire to cook. There are a lot of ground beef and pork chop recipes which are two of my least favourite meats. A lot of the recipes are common sense and you don’t need a cookbook for the recipes. Lots of grilling! BBQ manly stuff. There is also a chapter on kid’s food which was of no interest to me. Before I s... morelam this book further, there were a couple of “keepers” which I might try sometime soon. The recipes that stood out for me were the only ones where the Deen brothers took everyday ingredients and turned them into something easy, simple and tasty, yet they use food pairings or ideas that you wouldn’t easily come up with on your own. Or at least I wouldn’t. I am glad I got this from the library and didn’t buy it. I would recommend, if you are interested, getting it from the library and photocopying what you want. It is not a “cookbook bible” that you will cherish for years to come.
review 2: Ever come home from a hectic day at work, yearning for a really good meal, but you don’t have the time to create a masterpiece? Well, here’s the answer to your prayers. The Deen Bros. Take It Easy cookbook is filled with quick, easy dishes certain to tempt your palette. Sample the Quick Braised Chicken with Rosemary and Potatoes, Sauteed Shrimp with Bacon and Mushrooms or Balsamic-Glazed London Broil followed by Tortellini Tricolore Salad. Finish in a flourish with a no-fuss dessert such as Double Strawberry Shortcake, Ten-Minute Blackberry Cream Pie or Southern Ambrosia Snowballs. Your family will love digging into these tasty dishes and you’ll appreciate all of those rave reviews, too! less
