review 1: I liked what I read of this book, but I admit that I did not finish it. That is largely due to the demise of my Kindle, which forced me to read the book on my computer which I do not like to do. Also I was reading it as part of a group, which has finished the book. Perhaps I shall return to it in the future and finish it. I certainly appreciated many of Johnson's insights and reflections. Her book was different from many other books about Christian living that I have read. While I did not do enough to try to implement her suggestions at the end of each chapter, I thought they were an excellent means to help the reader reflect on what she was learning and apply it to his life. From what I did read, I would recommend this to others and I would like to give it 3.5 stars, if t... morehe system allowed that.
review 2: Wise words: If Barb Tompkins gives a book to Huntly Cooney and Huntly gives it to you it is bound to be well worth the time to invest in reading it carefuly. This book ranks up there with The Celebration of Discipline. It is like a curriculum for spiritual disciplines filled with excersises and practical suggestions or experiments exercises in connecting with God. Chapter 2 and 3 hit me right between the eyes-expertly pointing areas where I need to grow. Once again I feel the need for community in which to practice these disciplines.It is so easy to just read the book and not slow down and practice the steps, leaving me with an intellectual understanding void of true intamacy with God. Makes me wonder what I really want. True intamacy is always a risk. less
