Brennan Sisters
review 1: The youngest of the Brennan sisters, Sarah, married baseball player, Boone Walker. She is haunted by thoughts of all the groupies swarming around the players and can't help wondering what her husband is doing when he is on the road with the team. This novel starts with the death of Sarah's mother from cancer, followed quickly by the death of her oldest sister's husband in an auto accident. So many family crises at once try Sarah's ability to cope. This is an excellent novel.
review 2: p. 141." Fortunately, feelings aren't reality. They're just feelings." in response to feeling "broken"p. 289 " As she talked to him, Lauren traced his name again and again, as if she could somehow draw him into her, or pass her love through her fingertips and into the stone,
... more reaching him somehow. Because love didn't die. Love didn't end. Love was there in the beginning, and love was there at death. Love was what tied them all together...."These two passages stood out to me from the book. I really enjoyed this book. It wasn't one that I could rush through as I needed time to process along the way. Porter did a great job at character development - especially with Sarah. I could completely identify with Boone's frustration and annoyance over her clinging and insecurity. Yet at the same time, I was rooting for her to be able to re-connect in a very real and genuine way with her husband and for her marriage to be salvaged. Lauren's story had me in literal tears as she began to deal with the loss of her son. As a mom, the reader can really connect with her anguish; no mom wants to imagine losing a child. less
