review 1: Maybe 3.5 stars. I shouldn't punish the story for the fact that I was asked to review it for the Booksellers Best Awards, and it happens to be the second book in a series. Of course I haven't read the first, and didn't have time to hunt it down before I read this one.It was a nice twist on the "princess and the pauper" tale, with twins separated at birth and raised on different continents, who decide to switch places based on their remarkably similar looks. They don't figure out that they really are twins until the very end of this book. It was entertaining, and romantic, and the male lead is truly a prince charming.Emmeline was a bit too high strung for me - I prefer stronger heroines. She would seem to know her own mind, then collapse in a fit of self-doubt and self-pity... more.Since the book was only 192 pages, the action moved at a breathtaking pace. I guess there are people in the world who are this rich and can do things so swiftly. I guess. Completely not part of my reality!
review 2: Princess Emmeline d’Arcy of Brabant, who was engaged to marry King Zale Patek, was storming through Mynt Lounge, one of South Beach’s trendiest night clubs, in search of Alejandro Ibanez, Argentina‘s star polo player. Pregnant, unwed and engaged to another man, Princess Emmeline was on a mission to get answers from Alejandro. For five years he had chased her and she had turned down his advances. In a state of weakness she succumbed to his advances and gave up her virginity. All it took was that one night. One night of empty love making and losing her virginity for Princess Emmeline d’Arcy to get pregnant. Alejandro had been avoiding her calls, but now she wanted answers. She was sure that once he saw her he’d remember how much he’d said he adored her. However, when Emmeline spotted Alejandro in the VIP section of Mynt Lounge, he was not alone. Sitting on his lap was young model, Penelope Luca. Penelope was not just sitting on Alejandro’s lap, he had his hand seductively up her short, red skirt. Witnessing this, Emmeline sharply called his name. Alejandro didn’t even acknowledge her. Suddenly a deep voice spoke behind her and Sheikh Makin Al-Koury was leading her out of the club. Sheikh Makin Al-Koury couldn’t believe that she was in a club and dressed like … sex! What the Sheikh didn’t know was that who he thought was his assistant, Hannah Smith, was really Princess Emmeline d’Arcy of Brabant. A few days prior, at a polo match in Palm Beach, Princess Emmeline had asked Hannah if they could switch places for a few hours. Emmeline was amazed at how much her and Hannah resembled each other. She had asked if they could trade places for a few hours so Emmeline could go out in public and not be recognized. What she really had planned was to find and confront Alejandro. In keeping up the charade that she was indeed Hannah, she accompanied Makin to Kadar for a large conference he was hosting for two dozen dignitaries and their spouses. After arriving to Kadar, Makin had gotten a call that Alejandro was in an automobile accident and in surgery. He knew he had to tell Hannah, but he knew it would be hard. Will Sheikh Makin Al-Koury find out that Hannah was really Princess Emmeline, who he disliked? Will Emmeline and Hannah be able to switch places before everyone finds out about their charade? Will Emmeline keep her unborn baby and risk humiliating her family?I really enjoyed this story and the characters. Emmeline, although a princess, showed real emotion and concerns. They were characteristics that anyone could relate to. Makin was a big, handsome, wealthy man full of power. He put on a tough persona, but really was a loving and caring person who only wanted to do good and help others. Makin was the type of man that you could fall in love with. This book was very well written and had you believing in true love. I only wish that there was a sequel to it. I would highly recommend this book and gave it a 5 star rating. less
