review 1: copyright 2009This is the story of Gilbert whose aunt is Emily Dickinson but he calls her Uncle Emily. Emily's poems are woven into the story. At the end of the book, the author includes a section called "What is True about This Story." Very neat book - I was interested in this book because all I remember about Emily Dickinson from high school is that all of her poems can be sung to the tune of "The Yellow Rose of Texas".
review 2: I really liked it, and think children will, too, if a person who has already enjoyed the book himself reads it to them, and shares ideas with them. I don't 'get' the Dickinson's poems that I've tried to read, but I do keep trying. This book doesn't help as much as I wished, otherwise I'd give it five stars. I particularly liked
... more Gib's observation of the reactions at home to the limp he developed at school:"But no one noticed anything.Grownups rarely do. ...Uncle Emily saw me limp and askedabout it, for she notices everything. Poets do that, you know." less

A charming story that introduces children to Emily Dickinson and poetry.
