review 1: Who was Abraham Lincoln is a book that tells Abraham Lincolns life story. It told me many knew things like how he only had one year of school, then after that he tought himself everything else he needed to know. Do you know that awesome beard he had? Well some women said to him"hey Abraham you would look more like a president if you grew a beard" so he grew one. Abraham hated slavery but he cared about keeping the U.S.A together more than he did freeing slaves. But the north thought all slaves should be free and the south didn't, this led to the civil war. Eventually the war went far enough and he signed the emancipation proclamation, but the war kept going but now former slaves joined the war efforts against the south. This book tells about much more than Abraham Lincoln ... morewith many cool facts and it really pulls you in so read it!
review 2: Who Was Abraham Lincoln by Janet B Pascal is written for Elementary level readers. This book is an easy read and has of black and white drawing through out the book. I borrowed this book in e form from the library. I think having the drawing helps keep keep a reader more involved in the story. This biography is written in a timeline so you can easily follow his life. Abraham Lincoln started off as a framer boy and ended up the 16th President of the United States. It is amazing to see how a boy who worked a farm turns in to man who lead a county through a Civil War and abolished slavery. The book is also full of fun and interesting facts about him as a child and adult. This allows the reader to see him as a person and not just a President. Since this is an elementary reading level it is important to write about him as a person that will help keep a young reader interested in who he was. I like this series of books and would recommend them. less
