review 1: Este livro, de acordo com a sinopse, era daqueles livros que eu tinha a certeza de que iria ser do meu agrado. Mas tal não aconteceu. Foi uma leitura rápida e estranha. Rápida porque apesar das cerca de duzentas e poucas páginas, a letra e o espaçamento entre as frases são grandes e também porque o conteúdo narrativo carece de desenvolvimento e complexidade fazendo com que os acontecimentos surgisse muito rapidamente. Foi uma leitura estranha porque senti que estava a ler um guião de um filme, ou seja, as coisas sucediam-se umas às outras sem um bom enquadramento. Por vezes, parecia que estava a ler cenas isoladas.Sob o olhar do amor é o livro que traz a história de amor de Claudio e Laura. Claudio é um cantor lírico que é cego e Laura é uma agente de canto... moreres. Depois de um atrito com a sua anterior agente, Claudio recebe Laura e esta apaixona-se instantaneamente por Claudio. Logo desde aqui é estranho tendo em conta os tipos de personalidade de Laura e Claudio que a autora queria passar. A ausência de descrições e de acontecimentos faz com que a autora não seja bem sucedida no que toca à construção da personalidade de cada uma. A própria forma como Laura se apaixona pelo Claudio não faz muito sentido.A autora quer passar uma imagem de Claudio numa fase de revolta perante o luto da sua cegueira, mas falta tanta coisa para que esta situação se torne real aos olhos dos leitores.Laura também merecia uma melhor construção e merecia que a autora lhe desse mais garra e determinação.O livro está cheio de clichés, mas não é a sua presença que me irrita e sim a forma como a autora os aborda. Verifiquei algumas incongruências e situações que ficam pendentes. Uma das incongruências acontece de uma página para a outra. Numa das páginas, mais no final do livro e após Claudio ter feito a operação e regressado a Paris, ele refere-se a Hélène dizendo que ela o estaria ali para receber caso não estivesse em Bruxelas. Na página seguinte, ela já lá estava para o receber.Também no final, por duas vezes surge que o médico oftalmologista quer falar com Laura, e nota-se uma certa urgência. Contudo, tal nunca chegou a ser concluído pela autora.Esta história, sendo algo previsível necessitava de um maior cuidado no final. Tal como quase tudo no livro foi abrupto e pouco profundo.O que não me fez dar uma estrela foi o facto de ter gostado da escrita da autora. Apesar das falhas em termos de construção da narrativa e das personagens, a escrita é simples, bonita e cativante.
review 2: I didn't know what to expect from "Love Story" by author Janine Boissard. The story line concept--wounded "hero" redeemed by the love of a good woman with unconventional beauty--is not new, but here it still seemed fresh. Perhaps the opera world setting featuring a superstar tenor enhanced the romance and added some intriguing shadings to the characters. While I do have a great appreciation for opera, I am still just a fan, not a in-depth aficionado. I am still simply in awe by the power of the human voice in all its vocal varieties, and I could easily imagine myself as spellbound as the heroine as she lost herself in listening. Laura Vincent is the daughter of a baker in the small village of Villedoye, near Normandy, France. As petite and dark as her older sister Agatha is tall and fair, Laura, the "little one", is the down-to-earth smarts to her sister's dreamy beauty. Encouraged to become a teacher, Laura instead earns two degrees, one in English and the other in literature, and then moves to Paris to work in the music and dance industry as a promoter. Laura is chosen by her employer to take on a very special assignment: assistant to world-renowned tenor, Claudio Roman. Blinded by a vicious attack during an attempt to steal his car, Claudio none-the-less lives life much as he pleases, feeding his appetites as he chooses. Laura's practicality, sweet nature, and lack of worldliness are much in contrast to the pleasure-seeking lifestyle lead by Claudio. However, they become friends, finding common ground while enjoying their differences. Claudio comes to rely on Laura, and she begins to see that there is more to him than his playboy persona. His attitudes toward women were shaped by his controlling, discouraging mother and the misery of his long-suffering father. Laura's happier family life, despite her constant comparisons to her sister, is quite a contrast to Claudio's childhood memories. When the chance comes for Claudio to undergo surgery which will restore sight in one eye and give him back much of what he lost, Laura is determined that he will go through with the operation. They have now become more than friends, and her fear that he will reject her when he actually sees her leads her to make a heartbreaking decision. Will the eyes of love see the truth of hearts? "Love Story" is just that, a story of love at different levels, both selfless and self-serving, and it reads very quickly to its conclusion. I enjoyed the book, and I would have loved to see the story line expanded, allowing more time to be spent with the characters and their lives, especially in such a charming setting.
