review 1: I was looking forward to reading this because I have really liked all Jared Diamond's books, but this one was repetitive; made many statements to which I would respond, "well, DUH"; in some places sounded like a college thesis where the student is trying to impress the prof by reciting as many long lists of things as possible; and in other cases made generalizations based on anecdotes. I was disappointed, with the exception of a couple chapters.
review 2: I FINALLY finished this book! It took me forever, and not because the information presented wasn't thought provoking, it was just very, very long. Probably longer than it needed to be. Diamond seemed to go on tangents with some topics that were kind of unwarranted, such as explaining in detail what hyperte

I couldn't finish it. Too dry with its academic essay style of writing.
