review 1: The story, characters, and themes aren't earth-shattering, but they're solid and fun. What I really loved about reMIND was the gorgeous artwork and coloring, which Jason Brubaker did all himself. Brubaker succeeded in creating that something special that he and other comic fans search for at conventions, something fresh and gorgeous that you just have to take home with you. It was also interesting and heartening to hear about Brubaker's long road of hard work, creativity, collaboration, and apprehension to get reMIND published in a format true to his vision.
review 2: Jason Brubaker's comic reMIND is, in one word, refreshing. The art has a distinctive look that moves the story along with great detail but unambiguously, and given Brubaker's other professional w
... moreork largely involves design and storyboards it isn't surprising that at times it feels a bit like you're watching something animated -- though the intricate artwork and painted look of the colors outshines most animation by far. The story moves at a fast pace making it easy to fall into, though regrettably it seems over all too soon. It's definitely an experience. And mostly that experience is lighthearted, which made for a nice change -- getting outside the angst of many recent comic releases. The story is also bizarrely unique involving some religious undertones, lizardmen, lighthouses, talking cats, and so on and so forth. The brew of story elements is so unexpected that there are consistently new surprises that fall in line rather quickly with the story's pacing keeping the reader rapt all the while. Admittedly the story feels like it's just getting warmed up even though in the first volume the story goes quite a distance; that just means there is more time to go back and enjoy the artwork -- calling this comic a coffee table book is no joke or gimmick; it is that elegant and vibrant. For those who want a look at something new and different, and of exceptional quality, this would be a good place to go. less
