review 1: This was light and entertaining. Nothing real remarkable. Imagine if William Howard Taft came back to life 100 years after he was defeated for reelection as president. The book is not worried about the "how did that happen" aspect of him coming back, just the satire of the current political situation. It helps to have some idea of Taft's historical standing, such as knowing that he was President. If you look on Wikipedia, it will probably give you enough context to understand some of the jokes and slights that are part of the narrative.
review 2: This was a fun book to read, especially after you have read about the real history of Taft. Almost a time travel book, Taft is missing for 100 years, then shows up and a political movement arises around him. A 2
... more1st century Meet John Doe story. I sort of expected the twist at the end, but it was enjoyable and a quick read. My only quibble is the obsession with his appetite. It was sort of a running joke. less

This one is a lot of fun, and the reanimated Taft is a great character.
