review 1: It started off great - intriguing and captivating and engaging all at once. Khy's drugged medication wearing off so quickly was kind of ... eh, but I suspended disbelief. Jaedin going back and forth about wanting to help/becoming involved and then trying to rid himself of the trouble was pretty cool, a more internal sort of conflict rather than external for the relationship. Then, stuff happens. Running and tracking and being captured and drugged and nearly raped, rescued and healed and then a scene where is was SEVERLY DubCon/NonCon and yet ... it wasn't? I'm still confused about that. It was realized and apologized and brushed off and forgotten and I'm like ... wut? Then, traveling some more. Getting drugged again, saved again, and an enigmatic man who does ... nothing. E... morexcept teach meditation. Which supposedly helps Khy to defeat this super-powerful, all-knowing master of his that he escaped from? All the while Khy shows unconscious use of his own power, is called a leythe, refuses to admit he's one, takes ownership of the powers [still refuses he's a leythe], and shows no interest in learning how to wield them or wondering where he came from or who his parents were or what he truly is [beyond, you guessed it, denying he's a leythe and trying his darndest to 'get rid' of these powers, when, wait - aren't they supposed to be genetic? As in, your basic genetic code? That means you can't just get rid of them, right?].Fight with big baddy comes up, defeat, practical death of lover, miracle that saves lover, powers mysteriously 'burned up' leaving Khy the way he *wanted* to be in the beginning and ...I don't know. I just didn't feel it. If I hadn't been so invested in 1] trying to get through it and 2] hoping it got better, I'd probably have laughed my way toward the end.
review 2: This is a lot of fun. The world building is fantastic and the MCs are sympathetic and cool. I really liked the opening section where Khy is zoned out. I was a bit underwhelmed by the final 20%, especially Varian, who is full of wise, gnomic statements that sound like an Obi-Wan and Gandalf mash-up, with a bit of Dumbledore thrown in. He just felt more predictable and generic than the rest of the story. But overall, this is a solid fantasy adventure. Terrific addition to the Love's Landscape's event. less

Was a bit uncomfortable with the whole relationship, and got kinda bored by the end...
