review 1: I really didn't get this book. It was just a whole bunch of different people with a whole bunch of different stories. Although I know the people were connected in a way that they all had a relationship with Bishop Fontaine, but that's where the similarities ended. There was no similar thread that reasoned why all these stories were put into the same book. It just didn't come full circle for me, there was no conclusion. This book just left you hanging off the side of a cliff with no chance of a escape of survival for the seemingly pointlessness of this book.
review 2: Not really sure what this books was supposed to say. The premise is that Bishop Fontaine (that's his name, not job) dies, leaving his 29 year old daughter, who he has emotionally abused all her li... morefe, all alone and very wealthy. He leaves her the house and his share of the funeral home business he owns with Lamar, her "uncle". Lamar is a closet pedophile who has been obsessed with Kristine all her life, culminating in indulging in an affair with her since she was 16. His reasoning is that it was o.k. since she was willing..... Then there is Rayne, a former heroin addict who meets Bishop when her husband o.d.'s. For unexplained reasons, Bishop helps her clean up and stay clean, allowing her to pursue her career as a blues singer. Cole, a pro-boxer, who is a cousin or something like that, never gets involved with the other characters, and had a super-model wife who has an extreme S7M fetish.Kristine starts to break out from her restrictive father's rule, finds love with someone her own age, Lamar loses what's left of his fool mind, and Rayne comes to terms with herself, but it sounds a lot better than it read. There was so much that could have been done with other characters and there could have been and should have been, more interaction with characters than there was. There is information revealed that goes nowhere and if it had, it would have been a much better work. less
