review 1: Helen, Milos, Milena, and Bartolomeo have all ran away from their boarding schools which are controlled by the government, proving that the government has been controlling all of the children whose parents they have killed. The book was very action packed, each chapter the author, Mourlevat kept wanting me to read more. I liked how the characters personalities were coming out more as the story went on, and how much more emotional they became with each other as their relationships progressed. I liked it in chapter 3: Annual Assembly, when Helen and Milos were writing each other letters and then they eventually met up again and went into the attack to watch the meeting with the staff from the boys and girls schools. I liked it how their relationship really started, because w... moree went into the mind of Helen and found out what she was thinking about Milos. I didn't like it at the very end of the book when Milos just died and Helen was never able to see him again after he was captured in the mountains; it didn't seem like she had any closure with him. I have many favorite parts in this book, but I liked it best when Helen, Milena, and Bartolomeo were all reunited together and were together till the end. Many people would say that the boarding schools were prison-like which is probably the most accurate way to descried the schools. Especially since a student is put in the basement (prison) whenever another student doesn't come back in time from seeing their consoler. They were put down their in the dark, cold cell with one meal a day and one glass of water.
review 2: YA dystopian translated from the French and apparently a French classic. Lovely writing but odd story! An oppressive government settles the children of former rebel leaders in strict boarding schools. Eventually some of the children break out and lead their own uprising, learning the truth of their parents' deaths in the meantime. The book also sprinkles fantasy elements throughout. Beautiful prose but lacking in world building. less

Not finished too much like the Hunger Games with the prep for the Gladiator's ring
