review 1: I’m reading “Winter’s End” by Jean-Claude Mourlevat. The Book By the cover Does look very interesting.I had high expectations for the book. It looked very promising by the epilogue. But it it very slow i read the book through i don't remember most of it because it was very boring. I lost Interest in it a while through. This book is towards the young adult audience. It is about these girls that try to run away from there boarding school. The main Characters Milena, Bartolomeo, Helen, and Milos. They are in a time Government have gone bad. They have killed the parents of these kids. The Government has take away most freedom from everyone. This book is in the modern time but has that Fantasy in it such as dungeons gladiators and dog-men.Due to them being in boarding s... morechools they have never really been around the opposite sex There is this underground rebellion to overthrow the government. They try to put some romance into it When Milena meets Bart they go off together.Milena and Bart live happily ever after cause their parents were comely and talented.Helen never learned her precious Paula a counselor called consoler wasn't that great. Overall the book for me was very hard to follow. I lost interest in the characters. There back story's and adventurer was very dull. I recommend this book if you like books about future governments and fantasy. So i rate this book 2 out of 5.
review 2: John KrillWinters End by: Jean-Claude MourlevantMain Characters: Milena-Female, good singer, age between 14-15, attends boarding school, dating Bart, attractive Helen-female, short, brunette attends boarding school, dating Milos, Milena’s friend, Milos-male, tall, wrestler, attends boarding school, fights in the winter gladiator games, dating HelenSummary of the plot:The story begins when two girls Milena and Helen going to see a friend outside of their very strict, all girls school. On their way they meet two boys, Bart and Milos that both attend the all boys school next door. They become friends and are happy to see the opposite sex. Bart and Milena later meet up and run away from the brutal, wicked, discussing school that they attend. Helen and Milos too would later runaway for the same reasons. While running away Milos is caught and sent away to fight in the gladiator fights. Meanwhile, Milena, Bart, and Helen go into refuge and take a job working at a restaurant. They soon realize that the school isn’t the only horrible place controlled by the Phalanges and that they must do something. The characters soon begin a journey to stop the unjust ways of Phalanges and save Milos. The ending of the book explains this journey, and the lengths that they must go to save their friend. Explanation and Resolution:The main conflict in this story is that the characters in the novel hate the Phalange and wants them to be destroyed. The close of the book includes Bart, Milena, Helen and hundreds of slaves attacking the Phalanges, in order to save the city and their friend Milos. Explanation of whether you like the book: This was not the best book I ever read. The book is very slow in the beginning and even boring at times. As you get to the middle of the book it becomes better with a few fighting scenes. But, the middle of the book is also confusing because the author introduces many different narrators. The ending of the book is weak but very climatic, which was interesting to read. After reading this book, it is still hard to tell whether the genre of the book was a romantic, drama or an action thriller. less
