review 1: An adorable story told in a beginner's graphic novel format. Momma mouse tells her son to get ready for a trip to the barn. Of course, mouse thinks this means get dressed so he can go out. The little mouse goes through all of the steps of getting dressed while thinking aloud about his clothes. Readers are in for a funny surprise at the end!I liked this Toon Book better than Chick and Chickie Play All Day. The words are slightly more complex but the story line is easier to comprehend. There are also pages that include 2 frames which makes the book look more like a comic so it's easier to introduce the various features. I thought the suggestions in the back of the book were very helpful from a teacher perspective. A lot of them seem obvious, but it's nice to confirm what you... morer doing is on the right track when you are utilizing a new type of text for the first time.I don't think this book would be good for a read aloud, but I picture students doing very well with it during guided reading or partner reading. You could do a lot of fluency activities with this type of book.
review 2: This delightful tale about a mouse getting ready to play in the barn reminds me of my childhood when my mother wanted me to get ready to go somewhere. Little Mouse is getting all his clothes on to go play. I remember an episode of Caillou I was watching with my children where Caillou is trying to get ready, but he gets distracted by many things. The story ends with Little Mouse all dressed and the mama comes over and tells him mice don't wear clothes. Then he scampers off to the barn. It's really a cute story I think young readers will love. Every child I'm sure has had a moment when they end up doing more than is necessary. less
