review 1: What you get out of this book depends on how you approach it, I think. It's less about tips for living below your means happily (although there are a fair number of these) and more about showing you how other people do it, which, yes, includes the strange habits of a lot of odd birds. The book kind of reads as an extended summary of survey results rendered into somewhat amusing prose.Sometimes I give 3 stars to indicate my level of "meh" with a book; but this one is scored as such because, according to GoodReads, 3 stars means I "liked it." Which I did, even though it was preaching to the choir.

... morerlier book frequently mentioned by the author would have been a better use of my reading time. The same value could have been presented much more succinctly. Also, some of the statistics about average non-cheapskate people seemed questionable, unless I'm far more of a cheapskate than I ever realized (and I'm not the type to approach frugality in a competitive sense), and some of the observations and conclusions didn't seem as probable as the author makes out. Anyway, it's an OK read and you might get some ideas from it, but I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend this one. less
