review 1: Oh, man. I adore this book. I just want to hug it. I loved the Destiel fanfiction, which is what made me buy this book to begin with - I wanted to see what'd been changed, what'd been added, etc. There isn't a huge amount of difference, but this does feel more polished and professional, as it should, being a published novel and all. It's one of those stories that you can't get out of your head after reading it. It filled me with so much warmth...there's just so much I love about it. I love the mix of horror, romance and monster lore, and how it's ultimately a story about life and finding where you belong. I found it to be quite wordy at times, which is maybe why it took me a bit longer to read than I might normally take to read a 400 page book, but I enjoy the writing styl... moree all the same. The relationship between Ben and Nic in this is realistic and beautiful, the sex scenes are hot, and they get a happy ending, thankfully! The end - how Ben figures out that home is with Nic - made me cry tears of joy. I will be reading more books by Jen Archer Wood, as soon as she publishes them.
review 2: 4.2 stars. I was a bit cautious when I started reading this book since I rarely venture into horror territory. The plot gripped me quite quickly though and I was eager to see what happened next. I would say the story is mostly action-driven, yet there are some intensely emotional glimpses into the characters' lives with their joys and sorrows. Nick's hot and cold attitude (with a good dose of hurt) towards Ben was both tiring and frustrating; this tends to be my most disliked plot device and failed to make me believe that their relationship was sufficiently solid to last... Otherwise, a very good read and great start for my 2014 challenge! less
