review 1: I picked this up on a whim because I love reading books about Broadway whether fiction or non-fiction. About two chapters in I realized that I had read another book from this series and remembered why I didn't care too much for it. The author has a very bad tendency to "name drop" designer outfits and accessories throughout the story. Most of the time it is in no way important to know what the characters are wearing or holding, but the author feels the need to mention it all the time. And she doesn't just say that a character is wearing a pair of jeans or carrying a wallet. Nope-she has to tell the reader that they are DKNY jeans and a Tory Burch wallet. There are probably 4-5 designer items mentioned per page with each mention like a speed bump that interrupts the f... morelow of what could be a decent story. These books are good choices for a teenage girl who wants a fun read reminiscent of a show like Laguna Beach or The Hills.
review 2: My current favorite YA series. It's just right at the cusp of being fake to actually be real. The author blends the situations so well that a normal person could actual believe they could be friends with the Protag, which is why I like these books so much. In this book, the Girl spends her summer in NYC acting in the "IT" play of the moment. The cast is pretty much the same (of course, everyone moves to NYC with her) and the issues she deals with are the same as always (miscommunication with the boyfriend, especially since they are so far apart) but I liked the realism of the distances in everything and the situations the girl is put in and how they figure out how to solve her problems. Another winner, for those that like this series. And it's honestly one of the better YA series in the chick-lit genera that I have read in a while! less
