review 1: 4.5 Stars I loved Finn and Carrie's story in the Out of Line series and was excited that Jen McLaughlin decided to write an adult story about them a number of years down the road. Knowing that there was going to be some serious drama, I was also a bit fearful because I thought, if either one of them cheats on the other it is going to upset me really bad, because their's was one of those relationships that despite it all, would last a lifetime. Without revealing too much, I can tell fans of the series there is no cheating (clapping loudly at this point). There are, however, some very hard and heartbreaking obstacles that these two have to face that threaten to tear them apart for good, and also some very dangerous ones. I still loved both Finn and Carrie's characters. T... morehe passion and chemistry between them is as strong as ever, despite all they are going through. Finn is still his hot sexy self, so get ready to swoon girls. Jen McLaughlin has done an excellent job of taking the reader inside the minds of the characters, connecting you to them as they each face their own issues, concerns, and even judgments about each other. Then, through a turn of events, you get to experience what it is like when they each see and feel things from the other's perspective up close and personal, all the while providing her readers with a gripping story that will captivate you from beginning to end. Fractured Lines is a wonderful addition to the Out of Line series and I thoroughly enjoyed it and most definitely would recommend it.
review 2: 3.5 Stars'Fractured Lines' is the fourth book in a New Adult contemporary romance series. I haven't read any of the previous books, so I was a little confused and lost at times during the story - but not to the point where it really affected my reading experience. I think readers should read the books in order so they don't get confused, but it can be read as a stand-alone. This book was definitely not what I was expecting when I started it. I had a stereotype in my mind that New Adult romance dealt mainly with college age characters who fall in love and all that jazz. This book didn't fit that mold at all. The main characters, Finn and Carrie, are married and have a family. I wasn't expecting that, which through me for a loop right off the bat. The story itself was one of forgiveness, love, fear, family, and strength - among other heavy topics. The main characters were well written and easy to identify with - Carrie was especially realistic to me. They both have their secret issues - worries, doubts, and fears among others. They've had a really rocky history together and now it seems that the same issues that almost tore them apart before are threatening to do it again - this time for good. I don't want to do spoilers, so I'll just say that the issues that Carrie and Finn have to deal with are very realistic and apply to our society and culture today. I think that having their lives and problems written in this way makes it much easier for readers to identify with the couple and brings their story close to home. As I said earlier, I didn't read any of the earlier books in the series, so I didn't have a full history of Carrie and Finn's relationship or problems from before - and I think that I was at a disadvantage because of it. If I had "known" them better as characters, I think that the story would have felt more real to me and I would have experienced things differently. Even without reading any of the other books, I can easily say that this story was very well written and I found it fascinating to learn about Finn and Carrie's relationship and how things are going to turn out between them. Definitely recommended for those who have read and enjoyed the previous books in the series, as well as fans of New Adult contemporary romance.Disclosure: I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. less
