review 1: I really enjoyed this book! Very believable characterization of Charlotte, I thoroughly enjoyed her character of Mr. Basford, and although I was concerned about what conflict could occur that would be Regency appropriate, I think Ms. Becton did a good job. The only drawback I found was with some of the language. Phrases like "You need to live a little" I couldn't stomach as period correct. I still found it an enjoyable read, and written well enough to do justice to Austen's cast of characters.
review 2: I liked the end of this book the best. It was not a fun loving Charlotte story. I felt Charlottes character was too proper to have fun and it still did her no good and she still had problems that didn't fit with the personality of the character. I think a friend
... more of Lizzy would have been portrayed a little differently no matter her choices in the original Pride and Prejudice. I read the book because I liked the Charlotte Lucas/Collins character and wanted to read a happy/love story. It wasn't reached until maybe 97% into the book. It wasn't a bad story, nor was it boring just filled with more drama and gloom then I was hoping for, for Charlotte Collins. less
