review 1: I got this one as an Amazon freebie. It was a very short novella set in New Orleans in I would say probably the mid-to-late 19th century. This one didn't work for me for a couple of reasons:1. An overabundance of adjectives and adverbs. Not very many of the nouns didn't include a modifier of some sort! This meant the sentences were very heavy, often convoluted, and went around in circles.2. The whole story took place in the span of an evening. One evening and they go from not knowing each other to being head over heels for each other.3. The interactions between the characters weren't always believable - especially for that time period - and their reasons for their actions werent always well developed.4. Her father revealing himself just after they consumated their relation... moreship? Not romantic. And not a little on the disconcerting side.Though it didn't work for me, I have no doubts that the story will appeal to fans of the romance genre.
review 2: A novella length romantic story with elements of witchcraft, which will probably appeal to the readers of romance.Some of the sentences in the opening chapter could do with a quick edit. One or two of those sentences seem longer than the Chinese Wall.It takes a while for the story to start flowing comfortably. When it does it has the usual inner turmoil of two people attracted to each with the force of a small hurricane.Just on a personal note, I am not sure I would want any parent turning up and watching me like a cheerleader, after I have done the fandango. Sorry not endearing, just a bit creepy. I do understand that it is part of the plot. less
