review 1: So I think I really need to start paying closer attention to what I’m reading because this was a New Adult book, and I had, like, no idea. I do have to say that I do not remember at all having the means or maturity that these characters exhibited throughout this novel and it wasn’t *that* many years ago that I was 24 or whatever.Anyway, this is a tale of Anna, a career-oriented person being attracted to Jake, who is a little rough around the edges. Anna needs a date to her friend’s wedding, and a chance run in with Jake at a local bar leads him to pretend to be her date. There are sparks between them and they kind of ignore them until they go to the wedding and really consummate the relationship. Then, of course, there’s a dust up because Jake wants Anna to take a ... morefew days off of her high-pressure job, but she can’t, and he gets mad, blah blah. So their wonderful fake, yet not fake, weekend ends. They both get back to Boston and Anna realizes that she needs to work less and Jake probably should compromise a little too. Along the way the share their deepest secrets, Anna is concerned about money because as a child they lived in their car, and Jake has anger problems. It’s a cute book, though I found myself getting bored with it and rushing through. Their problems seemed silly, and now that I know it’s New Adult, it makes much more sense. I’m sure any New Adult would love this book, there are funny moments, and some steamy sex scenes.
review 2: I had a really hard time with this book. I found it hard to get through. I found myself getting bored. It was way too wordy and I also got very tired of Anna's internal dialog through so much of the book. She overthought everything and as much as he tried, he just wasn't enough. It was like over and over all we saw was Anna was a workaholic and overthought everything. Over and over and over. It wasn't just that it just moved way too slow. I found myself skimming the last 25% just so I could know how it ended. Did I get surprised throughout the book, yes. But it wasn't enough to keep me interested through the whole book. Am I glad jake was hot as hell and could break through to her, yes. Do I wish Jake would have put Todd in his place, yes. But more so I feel like Anna should have done that more. I mean enough was enough. The only time Anna really surprised me was a few times with Jake, other than that I just found it drab and dragging. Sorry! less
