review 1: A kind of sequel to this author's other YA book, The Cinderella moment. As with that book, I greatly enjoyed this one, however having Lily as the main character was a little tiresome. Yes, she grew on me, but she is spoiled and a little vain. She grows out of that by the end of the book though, so that's something. As with the first book, the author knows her stuff, or at least far more than I the reader. She throws in designer names, plays and actors, painters etc without pause. It added to the reality of the book, and added interest points.I love all the other characters, and grew especially fond of Max. I knew he was keeping secrets and guessed at them, but not the full reveal. I was glad for his ending, because I didn't want him to be the bad guy in the end.Of course I ... morelove the school element. I hate to say that at 26, I miss school. I appreciated while I was there, but I still miss everything about it; the socializing, the learning, the essays (God how I miss writing essays!) and the critique. My partner tells me to go do a TAFE course or something, but it's just not the same. Like a whole mini world contained in itself -sigh- Anyway, I was always going to love that part.I didn't even realize this was the same author of The Cinderella moment, despite the similar titles. I guess it can be read alone, but you're best of starting with Angel's story. A fun ride, four stars.
review 2: I can't think that as a middle aged man, and seasoned old pro (even if I am an actor), that I am the natural audience for this gem from the world of YA fiction! But it was a real page turner. Full disclosure, Jennifer Kloester is my cousin, and she dedicated the volume to me for answering some technical questions about the training of actors. Beyond that, this is a fast paced, forward moving bit of storytelling, full of romance, angst, and drama - just as in all the best fairytales. Can't wait for volume three. If you're looking to climb into a tower of your own and escape into a vivid adventure, read this! less
