Red Sparrow

Red Sparrow by Jason Matthews

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’ve come across this book when I saw the trailer of Red Sparrow starring J Law.
And I also got a knack for spies theme books. So, curiosity wins over and I got the book. Yeay !

The story
I like how the story centered on a female heroine and how strong her personality is. The danger and the intrigue within the KGB (now FSB) feels quite real. You could follow and feel how the character grow to hate her superiors but there’s this small secret that she’s a double agent.
The background is also well researched, consider that the writer is ex CIA. It’s quite exciting to get a glimpse of how they work to recruit outside agents.

The characters
The relationship between Nate and Dominika is quite bitter sweet. At one point, they seem to like each other, but there’s this political and ethical barrier that comes between them.

The end
I don’t quite like the end…but it’s a sensible solution, if you are in the spy game. I just kind of wish that MARBLE could stay alive and live his retirement in the US. Apparently, it’s no rainbow in a spy life.

Recommendation
Recommended for thriller lover, spy theme story lovers and political intrigue.
