review 1: Babymouse decides to run for student body president in this graphic novel, filled with fantasticly simple illustrations. This little mouse is quite endearing, lovable, and not to mention hilarious. She has some stiff competition for her council seat, however, and Felicia Furrypaw has quite an edge in the race. This book would make a great addition to an election-season text set. Students would love to compare and contrast real-life add campaigns with some of Babymouse's promises and a great discussion could ensue centered around candidates trying to give the voters what they want. As with any graphic novel, students could be given empty frames in which to write their own stories in this style. Writing with simply expression and dialogue may prove to some to be quite ... morea difficult way to convey a story while others will find it easy and natural. Scholastic Books rates this fun novel at a grade-equivalent reading level of 2.2 and an interest range from 2nd-5th grade.
review 2: I love Babymouse, and I enjoy reading about her adventures. But I'm kind of sad that Wilson plays less of a part these days. Anyway, the election process is brought amusingly to life as Babymouse goes up against several of her classmates and her locker. Craziness ensues. what do I love best? The campaign promises she makes? Her realization that the president has to work hard? Of course not: what I love best are her grandiose daydreams of ruling as president.Library copy. less
