review 1: This was a very good intro to what looks to be a saga. Martucci has created a world of dystopia that provides the backdrop for some good characters. It is imaginative and not your typical dystopian fair. It kind of feels like the map you can load while playing a single person shooter video game. You get to see in your full screen only a portion of what is going on and you know there is a lot more out there that has future danger. The key is to keep the immediate action engaging and only hint to the future danger, exploiting it when you get there. Since this world is hers to create, she has done a great job. The situations are realistic, or feel that they could be if this actually happened and the story of tight and disciplined. I've gotten the next installment and am looki... moreng forward to the continuation.
review 2: A decent backstory was this story's saving grace. The wording was awkward and tedious, and although the reader wants to relate to the characters, it is extremely difficult. Martucci created villains that are genuinely frightening, but they are only around to give credence to the (arguably believable) plot. Avery is a likeable heroine, but unfortunately, her winning qualities are lost in the poor writing. less

I liked this book a lot. It is fantasy and I intend to read #2.
