review 1: I think if I were to catagorise this book it would just be 'weird'. I am not sure who the target audience is. It is classified as 'Young Adult'- because the protagonist is a high school student, and the plot revolves around bullying and manipulation; however, it is an adult view of high school and it is cynical and horrific at times. I liked the prose and the references to biology and microbes; it was a compelling read, but not a pleasant one.
review 2: I read this one pretty quickly once I got a good start. The three narrators alternated chapters, with very different stories at first that eventually coalesced into an explanation of both the present and the past. The story takes place at a prep school in Northern Massachusetts, in the years 2000 and 2012-2013, ... morein the lives of Lily, Justin, Jonah and Iris and their families, friends and enemies, both known and unknown. This book has quite a few twists and turns, some I anticipated and some I didn't. I look forward to discussing it at our book club meeting, when we will get to Skype with the author as part of her record-setting quest. less
