review 1: Very intriguing! My bookclub was very lucky in that we got to Skype with the author, Jennifer Miller! Answered some questions for us, but really was just great to talk to her and find out more about her. Okay so the book, I liked the way it was written. Three narrators and two different timelines. Sometimes it made it difficult but only if you over thought about it. It had a great lesson to be learned. Sterotypes, rich get away with everything, perceptions, trusting, basic bully underline too. The end was well rounded, however I would had liked to have heard from Lily in the present timeline. Sort of give a over all summary about what Iris and Lily have learned and gone through. I also would had like a better coercive ( lack of the word I can't think of) statement about th... moreis bond Iris and Mr. Kaplan shared. At least hear the words from Mr. Kaplan even if he didn't say them to Iris. Not just a feeling about "bond". I am needy I guess. lol. Enjoyable.
review 2: So 3 3/4 stars, guess I'll round up to 4. I mostly really enjoyed this book. Prep school, precocious girl, mysterious goings-on, mysterious pasts. Death and grief following characters around. Wraps up nicely. Only quibble: unnecessarily descriptive (though not frequent) scenes re: sexual discovery, etc. Understandably, given age of most characters, part of the story, but. Definitely a creative, interesting, page-turner. I wanted to keep reading and not put it down. less
