Book review: Artemis: Wild Goddess of the Hunt, by George O’Connor

O’Connor, George. Artemis : wild goddess of the hunt. (Olympians series) First Second, 2017. 76 pgs. $9.99. ISBN: 978-1-62672-522-5. Gr 6+. P8 Q8

This is the latest book in the Olympians series. Artemis has many names; two of them are the Goddess of the Hunt and Goddess of Nature. Born to Leto and Greek God Zeus, Artemis and her twin brother Apollo, are born under the curse of Hera, Zeus wife. It is Artemis who aides her mother, 9 days after her own birth, with the birth of her brother. Years later they are summed to Zeus’ home whereupon Artemis requests several things of her father: never to marry, to have a bow made of gold, to have the mountains to hunt, and a chariot with gold horned stags to pull it, are just a few of her requests that Zeus agrees to. The illustrations use vibrant colors that show the energy and life of this young goddess.

Verdict: If you have the other books in this series, make sure you to add this one to it. My students are always asking for more books on Greek mythology I will point this book out to them.
